The liver is an amazing organ – it is the:
- cleanser and filter of the bloodstream.
- the largest and hardest working organ in the body and has an enormous amount of blood flowing through it.
- major fat burning organ in the body.
- furnace and energy factory of the body.
- organ of longevity.
With a microscope, we can see rows of liver cells separated by spaces which act like a filter or sieve, through which the blood stream flows. This liver filter removes toxic matter such as dead cells, unhealthy cells, microorganisms, chemicals and drugs etc. from the bloodstream.

The liver filter, like any filter, needs to be cleansed regularly, and this is why we have the Livercare Program.
If the liver filter becomes clogged or ‘dirty’ this can lead to a variety of health problems, such as fatty liver, weight gain, headaches, allergies, nausea and many other symptoms.
It is only the liver that can purify the bloodstream and we only have one liver.
Some people may ask “Isn’t detoxification a load of rubbish as the liver cleans itself” – The liver is an amazing organ and capable of regeneration in the ideal environment – It does benefit from a change in lifestyle and diet, such as an increase in raw foods (antioxidants), elimination of fried foods etc. will ensure that the liver is given the correct environment to do it’s job properly.
For example, if you continually consume alcohol the liver will not burn fat as efficiently and you will be prone to abdominal weight gain and symptoms of liver dysfuntion.
Liver Function
If the liver filter is healthy, it allows dietary cholesterol to be shunted into the liver for metabolism or excretion through the bile. A healthy liver filter is essential to properly regulate blood cholesterol levels.
Poor liver function may increase your chances of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes.
If the liver does not regulate fat metabolism efficiently, weight gain tends to occur around the abdominal area and a protuberant abdomen (pot belly) will develop. This is not good for the waistline!
Another sign can be a roll of fat around the upper abdomen, which I affectionately call the “liver roll.” This is often a sign of a fatty liver. It can be almost impossible to lose this abdominal fat until the liver function is improved. Once this is done the liver will start burning fat efficiently again and the weight comes off gradually and without too much effort from you.
It is not necessary to make yourself miserable by following a low fat, low calorie diet. What is effective in the long term is to eat the correct foods and nutrients for the liver to improve its fat burning function.
Improve liver function
Liver tonics containing selenium and other antioxidants may be beneficial against liver damage and inflammation and will help the immune system to reduce viral replication and viral induced damage to cells.
Liver tonics help support liver function and improving liver function will increase the ability of the liver to burn fat and pump fat out of the body through the bile. It will also help to breakdown fat-soluable toxins that would otherwise become trapped in the fatty tissues and lead to cellulite.
Liver tonics are the most effective strategy, however, you will need a powerful tonic that can really improve liver function.
